gp_vcon was designed and coded by Bruce Henderson, using
REALbasic on an Apple
Mac, and is copyright © 2002. Both Mac and Windows executables are created
from the same source, to give, when possible, an identical experience. The PDF engine
was created originally on a 4 processor Compaq Tru64, using the wonderful scripting
language of AWK, and took only 2 days to assemble, remembering of course, that I
had to learn PDF at the same time!!
gp_vcon uses the XMLToolkit classes of Amar Sagoo, which have made the whole development
process that little bit easier. In fact, gp_vcon uses XML extensively throughout,
both for configuration and storing of league data.
I'd like to thank Pete Calcraft, and the rest of the Gameplan
designers and GMs for all the hard work they've put into the game over the years,
and without whom, gp_vcon would not exist. Further information on Gameplan, as well
as the other play-by-mail games they run, can be found at www.pbmsports.com.
Although they will have nothing to do with gp_vcon, I know in their hearts, they
don't really have anything against it. After all, it was created to make the world
of Gameplan that little more exciting.
Thanks to the beta testers for their daring and bravado, in allowing themselves to be guinea pigs throughout the creation of gp_vcon.
I think Dave Marsdin and the endzone1 website deserve a mention, for the great coverage and free advertising of gp_vcon on his site. Anything you need to know about a Gameplan league, it's probably on the endzone1 site. There are newsletters, league standings, coaching records, and links to all kinds of Gameplan related pages. Well worth a visit.
